JuliaGatsGO BACK STAGE WITH MY INTERVIEW ON CAST MEMBER AND SEATTLE BASED JULIA GATS!

Julia grew up in Seattle and as a young girl started dancing at age of 6 under the instruction of the Raney sisters at the Tara Academy.  She then fell in love with Irish dancing which then became her focus. She studied under the instructor  She did many other sports as well but Irish dancing is her passion.  She is currently on tour with Riverdance and also is in rolled at Gonzaga University in Washington in which she will finish her Masters once she is done with the tour.

Since Riverdance is mainly all physical I wondered how she kept up with diet, traveling, and doing the shows.  How it impacted her being the first one she did.  She said that she (and pretty much the whole cast) has to eat really healthy (they do eat pizza here and there) but they have to keep a well balanced diet. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.  They hit the gyms a few times a week. I guess you can say they are in SHAPE!

Sometimes you don’t think about all the outfits that they wear in the shows.  Julia mentioned that the men and women go through about 7 each with the help of a wardrobe helper.  Making sure that everything is in place and helping them put them on.  They do however put on their own make and hair.  Makeup and hair is more natural then the typical broadway shows/musicals that you’d see but Julia said if you were to see them walking around town with it on she feels like she’s wearing a lot.  All for the lighting.

The company arranges hotels for them at each city.  Like any one that I interview each person has those special things that they like to travel with.  Julia likes to bring her mini blender to make smoothers in her hotel room with.

So how and when does Julia get to have some free time to enjoy all these fabulous cities that she gets to see?  They typically get 1 day off a week to venture off.  Also before the shows there is some time but usually its preparing for the show and resting.

Julia says this is her passion and she loves performing Irish Dancing.  She’s not sure what she will do after her contract is up.  She does plan on going back to College to finish but she’d love to continue touring as well.  She attended college to aim for getting her masters in Physical Education but her mind is now curving more towards broadcasting in some sort.  Perhaps she got some of the fame dust on her.  I don’t blame her!  Go get them Julia!!!
