AT&T Launches Battery Powered, Emergency Phone

With the Locate & Alert service** included with the plan, you can alert up to nine people you want to notify in an emergency. They’ll receive a call, email or text message with your location.

All you have to do is touch the phone’s emergency Alert Button. You can also set-up the phone to dial key contacts automatically with speed dial for up to 9 numbers.

What are the main features of SpareOne?
A: Your SpareOne Emergency Phone’s main features include Alert calling, panic siren, SOS flash signal, a glow-in-the-dark keypad and speed dials.

What kind of batteries can I use with my SpareOne Emergency phone?
A: The phone comes with two lithium AA batteries. When replacing, you may use lithium, alkaline or nickel-metal hydride AA batteries.

How much talk time does the SpareOne Emergency phone have?
According to the manufacturer, when using the new phone with the included AA lithium batteries, it has up to 11 hours of talk time. Battery performance may vary based on conditions and usage and cannot be guaranteed.

What is the standby time for my SpareOne Emergency phone?
A: According to the manufacturer, when using the new phone with the included AA lithium batteries, it has up to 10 days of standby time. Battery performance may vary based on conditions and usage and cannot be guaranteed.

How long will my flashlight last on permanent flashlight mode?
A: Approximately 35 hours on lithium AA batteries, 19 hours on nickel-metal hydride AA batteries and 20 hours on AA alkaline batteries if no other phone features are being used.

There’s no display. How do I see the buttons at night?
A: The keypad has a glow-in-the-dark feature to provide visibility in the dark.

What is the panic siren? How do I activate it?
A: The panic siren is a very loud alarm that continuously plays until it is cancelled. Hold the volume button for 7 seconds to activate the panic siren. Press the volume button or end button to cancel.

What is the SOS flash signal and how do I activate it?
A: The SOS flash signal is based on the Morse code, SOS, which is a distress signal. Hold the flashlight button for 7 seconds to activate and press the flashlight button or end button to cancel.

What is the Alert button and what does it do?
A: The Alert button is an emergency speed dial that can also send alert notifications to Guardians you create. By default, the Alert number is programmed to call 911 Emergency Services. The Alert number can be reconfigured on your SpareOne Locate & Alert service account. If you do not have an account, then you will need to register and create an account at to setup guardians and reconfigure your Alert number. Use of the is subject to separate terms and conditions and privacy policy.

How do I call my Alert number?
A: Hold the Alert button for 2 seconds or until audio feedback is played.

Can I make an emergency phone call without a SIM card?
A: Yes. The SpareOne Emergency Phone can make calls to 911 Emergency Services without a SIM card or active service. The phone must be within the GoPhone network coverage area.

When should I replace my batteries?
A: SpareOne will say, “Battery level low. Please replace batteries”. You may also receive email and/or text notifications if you turn on the battery level low notification on your Locate & Alert service account.

What do I use the speed dial list for and how do I remove it from the battery compartment window on the back cover?
A: Use the speed dial list to write down the numbers and/or names of your speed dial contacts. Please refer to the User Guide for instructions on how to remove the speed dial list.

How many speed dial numbers can I save? How do I save and call a speed dial number?
A: You can save up to 9 speed dial numbers, including the programmable Alert Button. To save a speed dial number, enter the phone number and hold any numerical key (except “0” and “1”) for 5 seconds. A validation tone will play. To call a speed dial number, hold the configured speed dial key for 2 seconds. A “calling” announcement will play.

What happens if I saved a speed dial number to a numerical key that already had a speed dial number?
A: The new speed dial number will overwrite the old speed dial number for that numerical key.
